Using Instant Messaging on Your Local Network

In addition to sending instant messages to buddies connected to the Internet, you can use iChat to send instant messages to people on your local network. This type of communication is known as Rendezvous messaging. Rendezvous messaging is a good way to communicate with coworkers or students in a classroom.

When Rendezvous messaging is turned on, you’ll see the Rendezvous window display a list of users on your local network without having to enter their screen names or add them to a buddy list. This list is known as your Rendezvous list. People in your Rendezvous list display their status just as those in your buddy list do. When you change your status in one list, it is also updated in the other list.
