If you don’t already have an email account set up, the Mail setup window appears the first time you open the Mail application. This is where you enter your email settings. If you don’t know what to enter, contact your Internet service provider or the network administrator at your location.

If you have a .Mac account, you already have a Mac.com email address. When you entered your .Mac user name and password in the Internet pane of System Preferences, your Mac.com email account was automatically set up. If you want another email address, however, Mac OS X Mail makes it easy to set up additional accounts.
